Job Purpose: Lead - Airside Operations is responsible for managing the daily airside activities to ensure the safe and efficient handling of aircraft and ground operations. This role is essential for maintaining operational standards, coordinating with various airport departments, and managing airside staff. Key responsibilities include supervising runway and taxiway operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and addressing any operational issues that arise.

Managing Safety and Compliance:

  • Manage all airside activities to ensure adherence to national and international aviation safety standards and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations set by DGCA.

Managing Ground Handling Operations:

  • Manage ground handling operations to minimize incidents and accidents at the airside.
  • Coordinate with ground handling service providers to adhere to schedules and manage ground support equipment, ensuring it is well-maintained and operational.

Coordinating Aircraft Movements:

  • Manage the safe and efficient movement of aircraft on the ground, including take-off, landing, and taxiing.
  • Coordinate with air traffic control (ATC) to manage aircraft movements, monitor and manage aircraft stands and gates to optimize usage, and ensure clear communication between pilots, ATC, and ground crews.

Responding to Emergencies:

  • Develop and manage disabled aircraft removal plans to ensure swift and efficient recovery in the event of an incident.
  • Coordinate with airport emergency services and external agencies, manage communication during emergencies, and conduct post-incident analysis to improve future response efforts.

Risk Identification and Management:

  • Identify potential safety and operational risks in airside operations and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits across airside operations to identify potential hazards or inefficiencies and develop action plans for identified risks.

Develop SOPs and Contingency Plans:

  • Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for airside operations to ensure efficient and safe processes.
  • Develop and maintain contingency plans for various airside operational disruptions (e.g., emergency evacuation, aircraft incidents, weather-related events).

Oversee Project and Maintenance Work:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of airside projects and maintenance activities to ensure that all facilities and equipment are functioning at optimal levels.
  • Maintain high standards of discipline and operational safety among all personnel and contractors working on the airside.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Manage airside personnel to maintain high operational standards and safety. Conduct interviews and make hiring decisions based on thorough evaluations, ensuring alignment with the team’s operational needs and safety objectives.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team through mentorship, training, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Digital Mindset:

  • Keep up with digital and AI advancements to enhance business operations and maintain competitiveness.
  • Embrace a digital mindset to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and improve overall operational effectiveness.

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree or specialized certifications in aviation safety, operations management, or a related discipline is preferred.

Certification:

  • SMS Certification
  • Air Traffic Management Certification
  • Emergency Response Planning Certification

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in airport operations with at least 5 - 7 years proven expertise in safety compliance, ground handling, airfield maintenance and emergency response is essential.
