Job Description

Looker LookML IC Developer We are looking for a highly technical LookML Developer to design, build, and optimize scalable semantic models and dashboards in Looker as part of enterprise BI modernization and migration programs. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in LookML, SQL optimization, dimensional modeling, and cloud data warehouse integration The candidate will be responsible for translating complex business logic into governed, reusable data models and ensuring high-performance analytical experiences.

Core Responsibilities

1. LookML Development & Semantic Modeling

  • Develop and maintain scalable LookML models (views, explores, model files)
  • Build reusable dimensions, measures, parameters, and derived tables
  • Design persistent derived tables (PDTs) and aggregate tables
  • Implement modular modeling best practices
  • Ensure naming conventions, documentation, and governance standards

2. Advanced SQL & Data Optimization

  • Write and optimize complex SQL (CTEs, window functions, subqueries, performance tuning)
  • Debug long-running queries and optimize warehouse compute usage
  • Implement incremental loading logic in PDTs
  • Analyze query execution plans

3. Dashboard & Report Development

  • Recreate complex dashboards from legacy BI platforms (QlikView, Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Ensure metric parity and validation with source systems
  • Build drill-downs, custom filters, dynamic fields
  • Develop parameter-driven and user-based dynamic reporting

4. Security & Governance

  • Implement row-level and column-level security
  • Configure user attributes and access filters
  • Manage content access and permissioning
  • Support audit logging and usage monitoring

5. Version Control & DevOps

  • Work with Git for LookML versioning
  • Manage development → staging → production deployment
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for Looker projects
  • Perform code reviews and enforce modeling standards

6. Migration & Validation

  • Participate in dashboard rationalization and inventory analysis
  • Perform reconciliation between legacy BI outputs and Looker outputs
  • Create validation test cases
  • Support UAT cycles

Required Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of hands-on LookML development
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (advanced level)
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks)
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (fact/dimension design, grain definition)
  • Experience building PDTs and aggregate awareness
  • Experience with Git-based workflows
  • Experience migrating BI assets from at least one legacy tool
