Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Application Engineer to join GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage business. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across the full application engineering lifecycle for service-related opportunities, acting as a key interface between customers, regional and global sales teams, internal engineering functions, and commercial operations.

You will take ownership of Customizations, Modifications, and Upgrades (CMUs) for installed systems, translating complex customer requirements into robust, cost-effective solutions. You will guide and mentor junior engineers, drive standardization and best practices, and contribute to the development of innovative service offerings that support business growth and decarbonization objectives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leading the technical definition and development of application solutions for service opportunities across industries and sectors such as Metals, Mining, Processing, Wind, Oil & Gas, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, standards, and business objectives.
  • Providing expert technical support to commercial and sales teams, including ownership of technical proposals, cost estimates, work scopes, and risk assessments.
  • Acting as a technical authority in customer engagements, including meetings, product presentations, and technical negotiations.
  • Collaborating closely with regional and global functions (Engineering, Commissioning, Sourcing, Project Management, Commercial) to deliver high-quality, competitive proposals.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical and commercial risks across complex opportunities.
  • Specifying, reviewing and approving sub-supplier technical proposals, ensuring feasibility, compliance, and value.
  • Driving continuous improvement through lessons learned, standardization of technical proposals, and development of reusable solutions.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior application engineers, contributing to capability development within the team.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for innovation, process improvement, and new market or service offerings.

Must-to-have requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent significant experience in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Strong experience in Application Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical role within industry, power, O&G, renewable and offshore sectors.
  • Solid technical knowledge of Automation Systems, PLCs, Electrical Drives, Power Systems, and similar technologies, with the ability to lead system upgrade discussions.
  • Experience leading or owning sales proposals, technical tenders, or complex quotations.
  • Hands-on engineering experience in Power Systems, Control Systems, Variable Speed Drives, Industrial Automation, or Rotating Machines.
  • Proven ability to translate customer needs into technically sound and commercially viable solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging at both technical and commercial levels.
  • Strong leadership mindset, with experience guiding or mentoring engineers and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Unrestricted Right to Work in the UK.

Nice-to-have requirements:

  • Experience in Offshore, Naval, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Familiarity with service-based business models and lifecycle support of installed equipment.

Additional information:

This role involves work for customers operating critical infrastructure. Depending on customer requirements, background checks and suitability assessments will be required as part of the hiring process (UK BPSS or UK SC clearance).
