Job Description

As a Layout Engineer within the GVPE / VOME department, you will play a pivotal role in modernizing Ford’s manufacturing environments. You will bridge the gap between 2D blueprints and 3D digital twins by creating accurate master plant layouts. Your work will involve detailed spatial coordination, including "Clash Detection" between production equipment and structural elements, ensuring that all facility designs meet rigorous safety and ergonomic standards. This role requires a blend of technical software expertise and a strong understanding of industrial equipment to support cross-functional teams in production, maintenance, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling & Conversion: Convert legacy 2D architectural and equipment layouts (AutoCAD/MicroStation) into accurate 3D assemblies using Siemens NX or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Asset Management: Develop and maintain a library of 3D assets, including machinery, robotic cells, conveyors, and safety fencing.
  • System Integration: Integrate vendor-supplied 3D models into the master plant layout, ensuring correct orientation and scale.
  • Interference Analysis: Perform rigorous "Clash Detection" and interference checks between production equipment, structural building elements (columns, trusses), and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) utilities.
  • Safety & Compliance: Verify overhead clearances for cranes and forklifts; ensure all layouts adhere to safety codes, ergonomic standards, and fire exit requirements.
  • Documentation: Generate detailed 2D installation drawings, section views, and plan views derived directly from the 3D master model.
  • Version Control: Maintain the "Master Layout" version control, ensuring all stakeholders are working from the most current site data

Qualification

  • Education: B.E., B.Tech, or Diploma in Engineering.
  • Experience: 7-9 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on 3D plant spatial coordination.
  • Software Expertise:
    • Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX and Autodesk Inventor is required.
    • Experience with AutoCAD (2D) and Navisworks (for large-scale visualization) is a significant plus.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of industrial equipment, material handling systems, and basic architectural/structural principles.
    • Ability to visualize complex 3D environments from 2D blueprints (Spatial Reasoning).
  • Preferred Skills: Experience utilizing 3D laser scan data (Point Clouds) to verify "as-built" conditions against digital models.
  • Professional Attributes: Demonstrated ability to lead layout reviews with cross-functional teams and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Additional Requirement: Candidate should be flexible to work in shifts if necessary.
