About the Role

About BDO Migration Services

BDO Migration Services is an incorporated legal practice specialising in all aspects of Australian immigration and nationality law for corporate and private clients. Our focus is on employer-sponsored visas, permanent residence pathways, and strategic immigration planning for businesses and individuals.

As part of the BDO global network, we combine legal expertise with a commitment to integrity, responsiveness, and impact. Our clients include publicly listed, private and government organisations spanning multiple industries and countries.

We are a purpose-driven team that values technical excellence, reliability, and life-changing outcomes for our clients.

The Opportunity

As a Lawyer, you will work as part of a collaborative and high-performing legal team to deliver services across a broad range of employer-sponsored and related migration matters. You will not be required to communicate directly with clients but will be expected to manage files, complete drafting, and deliver services to internal quality standards under the supervision of the Senior Legal Team.

This role is ideal for someone who is early in their legal career, with a strong foundation in migration law, high attention to detail, and an interest in improving systems, delivery and outcomes for clients. You will receive support, coaching, and exposure to complex matters, while contributing meaningfully to the team’s performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit visa applications and supporting documentation to the Department of Home Affairs, skills assessment and other relevant regulatory authorities

  • Draft submissions and correspondence including GTEs, health waivers, character waivers and responses to Requests for More Information

  • Conduct legal and policy research to support matter strategy and risk mitigation

  • Use internal systems to monitor deadlines, visa expiry dates, and compliance events

  • Maintain accurate records and case files to ensure matters are audit-ready

  • Collaborate with team members to deliver timely and compliant outcomes in accordance with agreed service level agreements (SLAs)

  • Escalate risks, delays, or client issues promptly and in line with internal policies

  • Participate in internal knowledge sharing, policy updates and continuous improvement activities

  • Contribute to a respectful, values-aligned workplace committed to fairness, integrity, and professionalism

Skills and Attributes

  • Sound understanding of Australian immigration law and policy, with a focus on employer-sponsored visa pathways

  • Excellent legal drafting and written communication skills

  • High attention to detail, accuracy and document control

  • Strong time management and organisational skills, particularly in high-volume environments

  • Ability to work independently on delegated tasks and seek support where needed

  • A growth mindset and willingness to learn from feedback and coaching

  • Commitment to fairness, professionalism, and achieving quality outcomes for clients

Qualifications and Experience

  • Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a migration or administrative law role (can include PLT or paralegal experience)

  • Experience working with employer-sponsored visa subclasses (482, 186, 494) preferred

  • Experience using Migration Manager or similar case management software (desirable)

  • Exposure to a professional services or corporate legal environment (desirable)
