Course Description: Cybersecurity risk is considered by many organizations to be the most important challenge they currently face. This course will examine the nature and effects of cybersecurity risks and attacks on organizations, governments and individuals. We will begin by exploring the nature of cybersecurity threats, including data breaches, hacking, ransomware, and cyberwarfare including examining the anatomy of a ransomware attack. In terms of legal frameworks, we will examine various national and international laws that govern cybersecurity. This will include examining criminal laws, data privacy laws, breach reporting obligations in laws, regulations and in other governing documents. We will also discuss ethical hacking, government surveillance and the role of law enforcement in private and public sector breaches. Through case studies and discussions, we will apply legal principles to real-world situations.

TQR: At a minimum, a first degree in law. Several years of significant practice or professional experience, in the relevant area; Experience in teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual setting.
