MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years of sworn law enforcement or sworn investigative experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year of the required supervisory experience.
In addition to the above requirements, Florida Statute 943 must be met. Successful completion of a urine drug test is a condition of employment.

JOB DUTIES:
The duties of this position require a full-time law enforcement officer (pursuant to S. 943.13, F.S.), subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, requiring the regular bearing of firearms. The position is certified by the Division of Standards and Training, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, as a State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer with full powers of arrest, functioning as an Investigator position in the Office of the Inspector General with the duty to enforce the laws of the state of Florida. This position’s primary responsibility is to assist the Inspector General in conducting special internal inquiries and investigations relating to alleged violations of law, departmental procedures, policies and rules as well as other alleged misconduct involving conflict of interest, code of ethics violations, or corruption in accordance with Section 570.092, F.S. This includes coordinating and/or conducting investigations into complaints against Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters within the department. These investigations require a full understanding of agency operating policies, State Personnel Rules and Regulations and various Collective Bargaining Contracts including Policemen and Firefighters Bill of Rights. Activities of this position are highly confidential and relate to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the department at every level of employment.Conducts internal investigations as set forth above into allegations of criminal or administrative misconduct by employees of the Department. Such investigations include witness interviews, surveillances, stakeouts, electronic monitoring, forensic evidence gathering, inspection of facilities, property and equipment, coordinating of polygraph examinations, and utilization of other forensic techniques to develop evidence and establish either guilt or innocence regarding allegations; obtains warrants, makes arrests and assists in prosecution of those arrested or administratively charged with misconduct.
Develops, prepares and maintains investigative reports and files including investigative plans, summaries, and witness statements and all documentation of and relating to the investigation; coordinates investigative activities and maintains liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and other criminal justice agencies; testifies at trials and hearings in connection with investigations resulting in arrests or disciplinary action by the department.
Conducts background investigations of applicants and members of the department as assigned by the Inspector General and prepares written reports; coordinates investigations or inspections of departmental functions with the internal auditing staff of the Department; acts as liaison with other law enforcement agencies or public officials relating to areas of common interest; participates in mandatory training, qualifications and retention activities, and performs other investigative or law enforcement activities as directed by the Inspector General or the Commissioner of the department.
