The requirements

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent is required.
  • Certificate in Housekeeping, Laundry Operations, or Hospitality Services is an added advantage.
  • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in laundry, housekeeping, or hospitality operations, preferably in a school, hotel, or institutional setting.
  • Basic understanding of infection control, hygiene standards, and safe use of laundry equipment and detergents.
  • Good knowledge of laundry procedures, including washing, ironing, folding, and linen management.
  • Ability to maintain high cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling and returning students’ items.
  • Team-oriented attitude with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability, honesty, and a caring attitude toward students’ welfare.
  • Physical fitness and ability to handle repetitive tasks and moderate lifting.

The position

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is an International Baccalaureate World School. It is the first in the network of Aga Khan Academies established by His Highness the Aga Khan.

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and hardworking Laundry Attendant to join our team. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient cleaning, care, and management of students’ laundry and residential linens while maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic living environment that supports students’ comfort and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day laundry operations for students, including washing, drying, pressing, and folding of school uniforms and personal clothing.
  • Maintain proper organization and cleanliness of the laundry area, ensuring all equipment and supplies are well-kept and safely stored.
  • Keep accurate track of laundered items and ensure timely return and delivery to the respective students.
  • Change bed linen and ensure mosquito nets and other residential furnishings are clean, functional, and well-maintained.
  • Supervise external cleaners to ensure residential rooms and shared spaces are clean, hygienic, and safe for students.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs in the residence or laundry area promptly to the supervisor.
  • Observe infection control and hygiene precautions in all laundry handling and cleaning activities according to institutional procedures.
  • Assist with returning used or excess bedding, linen, and cleaning materials to the linen store as required.
  • Support the general welfare, cleanliness, and orderly upkeep of student residence and related facilities.
