Job Description

Job Status: Full-time

Shift Times: 7:00 am-3:30 pm

Rotating weekends is required, plus a $3.00 shift differential for weekends worked.

& General Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Laundry Assistant is to provide stellar customer service and perform all laundry activities with attention to standards of quality, quantity, and safety measures.

  • Gather, sort, weigh, load, wash, iron, fold, and deliver items to appropriate rooms daily within time constraints.
  • Collect and process laundry and distribute it daily, and ensure resident laundry is sorted and returned correctly.
  • Monitor and sort items requiring mending. Check the condition of linens.
  • Ability to discern the cleanliness of laundry; detect stains and sort by color, and apply additional treatment if necessary.
  • Count and record pounds of laundry service, and maintain accurate records for budgetary purposes.
  • Count and record items identified for personal changes; keep accurate records for billing purposes.
  • Handle laundry chemicals and solvents safely and keep them stored properly.
  • Communicate washing procedures for isolation and special washes.
  • Remember names, places, and changes of occupancy among residents to ensure laundry is returned to the appropriate resident or location.
  • Operate general laundry equipment safely, including but not limited to commercial washers and dryers, presser machines, weighing scales, and handheld irons.
  • Report laundry and maintenance requests by completing the appropriate form within the appropriate time frame. Also, report all unsafe working conditions or equipment malfunctions immediately to the supervisor
  • Discern cleanliness of laundry
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Prior experience in Senior Living is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

This job operates both indoors and outdoors with normal lighting levels, comfortable temperature ranges, good air quality, ventilation, and moderate noise levels. General housekeeping environment with varying indoor floor surfaces and outdoor surfaces. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 35 lbs or less and occasionally more than 40 lbs. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. General hazards related to laundry duties. Hazards related to exposure to laundry chemicals and agents. Minimal hazards if safety precautions are followed and personal protective equipment is used when needed. Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials while handling and cleaning laundry.
