Laundry Aide

Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping
Reports To: Environmental Services Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-time
Shift: 3p-11p

The Laundry Aide is responsible for the safe, efficient, and sanitary processing of linens, clothing, towels, and other washable items used by residents and staff in the skilled nursing facility. This position helps maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents while following infection-control, safety, and facility procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sort, collect, wash, dry, fold, and distribute facility linens, towels, resident clothing, and other laundry items.

  • Follow proper procedures for handling soiled and contaminated linens to minimize the risk of infection and cross-contamination.

  • Operate commercial washers, dryers, irons, and other laundry equipment safely and according to manufacturer and facility guidelines.

  • Inspect laundry for stains, damage, or missing items and report concerns to the supervisor.

  • Properly identify and label residents' personal clothing and belongings as required.

  • Deliver clean linens and resident clothing to the appropriate rooms, units, or storage areas.

  • Maintain adequate supplies of clean linens throughout the facility.

  • Keep the laundry room, equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitary.

  • Use cleaning products, detergents, and chemicals according to established safety procedures.

  • Follow facility policies related to infection prevention and control, OSHA requirements, and safe work practices.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

  • Report malfunctioning equipment, safety hazards, spills, damaged linens, or other concerns promptly.

  • Assist with maintaining accurate laundry records and inventory as assigned.

  • Respect resident privacy, dignity, and personal property at all times.

  • Work cooperatively with nursing, housekeeping, dietary, and other departments to meet resident and facility needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

  • Previous laundry, housekeeping, environmental services, or healthcare experience preferred.

  • Experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, or healthcare setting is a plus.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when working around residents and their personal belongings.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and lift.

  • Ability to lift and carry laundry bags, linens, and other supplies, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to safely operate laundry equipment.

  • Ability to work in a warm, humid, and occasionally noisy laundry environment.

  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow infection-control precautions.

Work Environment

The Laundry Aide works primarily in the facility's laundry area and may regularly interact with residents and staff throughout the building. The position may involve exposure to soiled linens, cleaning chemicals, heat, moisture, and commercial laundry equipment. Appropriate training and PPE will be provided in accordance with facility policies.
