The Director of Engineering leads a comprehensive organization of Design, Product, Test and Process engineers responsible for the end-to-end design of Large Rotating Machines (motors, generators and synchronous condensers), Transformers, Power Drives, Switch Gear and Complex Systems for a variety of industry segments. With design authority (under corporate standards), you will be responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, and be instrumental to the overall business strategy.
/Purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Power Conversion and Storage division in Latin America, the LATAM Director of Engineering will lead Engineering on Rotating machines (induction, DC, synchronous, PMM, synch reluctance, and other topologies) and Engineering of integrated electrical solutions (system design and integration, power electronics, automation, switchboards and installation) for products and projects within LATAM or exported from LATAM to many global regions, notably North America, Europe and the Middle East.
The role is both operational and strategic. It demands:

The role requires focus towards growth on the Latam region operation, and he/she will leverage the GE network, to drive product innovation, technology injections, structuring and cost-out through tools and processes in the areas of power electronics, automation, power systems, switchgears, rotor dynamics, vibration, electromagnetics, insulation, aero-thermo, structural, and both electrical and mechanical systems integration.
Essential Responsibilities:
The LATAM Director of Engineering directs a functional area of several engineering departments across the sites of Campinas, SP and Belo Horizonte, MG. Executes projects with great customer engagement and trust. Translates concepts, considers strategic options, develops tactics, and implements change. Creates programs in alignment with the external environment. Participates in cross-functional , multi-cultural teams.
Drives team performance to meet aggressive time and cost demands from our customers.
Develop, implement, and achieve performance KPIs.
Develop a roadmap for building world-class products and solutions, including electric machines, power electronics, switchgears, software and overall systems design capability.
Serves as technical expert in the technical community through demonstrated technical accomplishments which may include holding patents, component design and systems design experience, and strong knowledge of engineering design fundamentals.
Drives customer project execution and delivers on time and quality
Leads and oversees quality engineering design, execution, and product safety; responsible for the oversight of the related sciences including materials and performance
Provides guidance, leadership, mentoring and intervention, as necessary, to strengthen the discipline, quality, reliability and rigor of our engineering work
Leads interactions with customers on technical issues
Works with Power Conversion leadership to develop and build long term strategies
Interacts with P&L engineering and technology leaders across GE to accelerate deployment of modern electrical and mechanical design tools and methodologies
Works with P&L product leadership to reshape the overall Latam technical strategy and the organizational structure
Provides leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property, export controlled and strategic technology
Required Qualification:
Degree in Electric or Mechanical Engineering
Strong knowledge of Engineering Design Fundamentals and Engineering Processes
Extensive experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems design
Fluency in English and Portuguese mandatory
Industrial experience in relevant industry segments such as Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Mining & Steel and/or Marine will be a plus.
Subject Matter Expertise on Rotating Machines and/or Electrical Systems will be a plus.
