Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Landscaper/Groundskeeper to maintain the exterior appearance, safety, and functionality of our nursing facility grounds year-round. This position is responsible for landscaping, lawn care, seasonal cleanup, and snow and ice removal to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubbery, trees, and landscaped areas.
- Mow, edge, trim, and fertilize lawns as needed.
- Install and maintain flower beds with mulch and rock if needed
- Plant seasonal flowers, shrubs, and other landscaping materials.
- Prune and cut trees and shrubs as necessary
- Remove weeds, leaves, branches, and other debris from facility grounds.
- Maintain irrigation systems and assist with watering schedules.
- Monitor landscaping for disease, damage, or safety hazards.
Snow and Ice Removal
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, and designated walkways.
- Apply salt, ice melt, sand, or other approved materials to prevent slips and falls.
- Respond promptly to winter weather events, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Operate snow removal equipment safely and effectively, including a pick-up truck snowplow blade, truck bed salt dispenser, and snow blowers.
- Ensure facility entrances remain accessible and safe for residents, staff, visitors, and emergency personnel.
- Available to work evening, night, and weekend hours based on snow accumulation
Facility Appearance & Safety
- Maintain cleanliness of outdoor common areas, entrances, patios, and courtyards.
- Inspect grounds regularly and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with outdoor projects, facility events, and seasonal decorations.
- Ensure compliance with facility safety policies and infection control standards.
- Follow all OSHA and workplace safety guidelines.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment including:
- Push and Riding Lawn mowers
- Weed trimmers
- Hedge trimmers
- Leaf blowers
- Snow blowers
- Pick-up truck snowplow blade and salt spreader
- Utility vehicles
- Other groundskeeping equipment
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions and needed repairs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous landscaping, groundskeeping, or maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience operating landscaping and snow-removal equipment preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance are required
- Must be reliable and able to respond to weather-related emergencies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.
- Ability to operate landscaping and snow-removal equipment safely.
- Ability to work flexible hours during seasonal weather events.
