Position: Landscaper 2

Department: Facilities

Keeps the grounds and outside areas ― including lawn areas and parking lots ― clean and free of debris. This is the second in a series of four (4) classifications. Incumbents work at a higher level of expertise than Landscaper 1, exercise some judgment and independence in performance of duties, and may instruct others.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  • Performs the duties of Landscaper 1.
  • Maintains irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring.
  • Uses irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste.
  • Assists with the laying and cutting of sod.
  • Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees using hand or automatic sprayer or spreaders.
  • Applies chemicals or other pesticides to control insects.
  • Builds forms, and mixes and pours cement to form garden borders.
    Installs rock gardens, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, and planters.
  • Maintains and repairs tools, equipment, and structures such as buildings, fences, and benches.
  • Assists with instructing others, as directed.
  • Completes requests and services promptly and in the allotted time.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the shift practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; uses as directed.
  • Supports and enforces departmental as well as the GED’s policies and procedures, and applicable regulatory policies, such as completion of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Turns in found articles in accordance with Facilities and GED policies and procedures.
  • Attends periodic departmental and GED meetings; attends professional and personal development training programs.
  • Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to guests using a guest’s name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
  • Provides attentive, courteous, and professional service to all guests and team members, striving to always exceed their expectations.
  • Answers questions about general property information and amenities.
  • Displays a diplomatic, polished, and professional demeanor in the workplace.
  • Promotes and provides excellent guest service experiences to both internal and external guests.
  • Completes all projects and assignments as directed by the Supervisor and/or Facilities Manager.
  • Cleans and maintains the parking lot and sidewalks, by removing trash, oil stains and unsightly gum and/or food stains.
  • Cleans enterprise buildings and grounds annually using steam cleaners.
  • Safely and properly operates equipment as assigned and trained to maintain the landscape surroundings enterprise properties.
  • Assist with irrigation maintenance and repairs of necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains the enterprise landscape by raking, sweeping, planting of shrubs and trees and trimming as needed and assigned.
  • Maintain storage to ensure all tools, supplies and equipment are secure and clean.
  • Maintains and mows grass as directed.
  • Attends update meetings and in-house trainings as required.
  • Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential functions of the position:

  • Must be able to constantly lift, carry, and move up to fifty (50) pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height, handle, pull, kneel, stoop, squat, grip, crouch, climb, crawl, twist, push, balance, and bend for duties, including inspections and work in confined or cramped spaces, indoor/outdoor events, uneven surfaces, and up or down stairs.
  • May be exposed to chemical, fumes, cleaning agents and other hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to perform primary job duties while exposed to inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, heavy rain, or high-humidity environments for extended durations.
  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written directions.
  • Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate with all guests, team members and internal/external vendors positively and professionally.
  • Must be able to work in environments with high noise levels, flashing lights, smoking areas, and large crowds.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to Travel/Work at any Casino Del Sol properties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of landscaping methods, techniques, materials, chemicals, and equipment related to the job.
  • Knowledge of different kinds of turf, soil types, and drainage.
  • Knowledge of which particular plants have a better chance of surviving under different conditions and how much water is needed on a weekly basis.
  • Knowledge of pests and diseases known to affect the health of trees and shrubs.
  • Knowledge of basic landscape design and how to best beautify properties.
  • Skill in maintaining all of the tools and equipment that are used in performing the job.
  • Organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to read and implement blue prints and landscape schematics, grading and drainage, patio and walk construction, and water garden installation.
  • Ability to use skid steers, trailers, backhoes, power augers, tillers, and other heavy equipment related to the job.
  • Ability to complete all required program Training Courses as needed within a timely manner.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment, and methods according to pre-determined standards.
  • Ability to learn and meet schedules and time lines; apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of the equipment and supplies utilized for the position.
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment assigned in cleaning.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of landscaping or groundskeeping experience OR any equivalent combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience.
  • Must successfully pass Landscaper 2 exercise.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work (may require shift changes), weekends, holidays, and special events), as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain, and retain a valid gaming license/background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).

The Gaming Enterprise Division and the Tribal Enterprise Division (collectively Casino Del Sol) are divisions of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. As a result, preferential hiring will go in this order to: (1) enrolled members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (2) Spouses and biological and adopted children of enrolled Pascua Yaqui Tribal members who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; (3) Enrolled member of other Federal recognized Tribes who meet the position’s minimum qualifications; and (4) all others who meet the position’s minimum qualifications.
