Job Description

St. Mary's Annapolis is seeking candidates for a Landscape Worker Under the guidance of the Facilities Director and Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining the appearance of outdoor areas by keeping lawns manicured, hedges trimmed, and pathways free of debris. In addition, the landscape worker will ensure that all outdoor areas maintain a professional appearance. This position will primarily maintain the grounds at St. John Neumann Church and the Team House.

This is a seasonal position, working part-time, 20-30 hours weekly Monday - Friday with no benefits.

Essential Functions:

  • Landscape Maintenance: Perform comprehensive landscape maintenance, including mowing, edging, fertilizing, weeding, and improving landscaped beds.
  • Plant Care: Plant new vegetation, prune shrubs, trim small trees, and monitor plant health. Take proactive measures to remove diseased or damaged foliage.
  • Mulch Bed Remediation: Many trees on campus have been improperly over-mulched over the years. This position will play an important role in restoring and revitalizing these trees.
  • Seasonal Improvements: Design, plant, and maintain flower beds (especially near the main entrance) to provide seasonal color.
  • Safety & Cleanliness: Keep walkways, parking lots, and playgrounds free of litter, debris, and safety hazards.
  • Event Preparation: Coordinate with staff to prepare exterior spaces for weekend services, weddings, funerals, and outdoor church events.
  • Seasonal Duties: Perform leaf removal and assist with snow and ice removal on walkways and entryways.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on mowers, blowers, and other landscaping tools. Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each shift.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and Facilities Director.
  • Demonstrate motivation to play a key role in enhancing the natural beauty surrounding the church.

Position Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Landscaping experience with a working knowledge of equipment and proper landscaping techniques.
  • Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including but not limited to an earth tamper, shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, and leaf blower.
  • Ability to independently lift more than 60 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and operate large equipment for extended periods. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders as needed.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license with no more than three points on record.
  • Ability to complete all necessary paperwork. This position requires a criminal history and background check.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.

Pay Range: $17.00 - $19.00, Hourly
