Job Description

Under limited supervision, performs general labor work, including but not limited to, grounds maintenance; pruning; planting; watering; applying fertilizers; and general care of plants for the purpose of maintaining the landscape using “best practices.” Operate equipment, tools, and machinery associated with maintenance of the landscape, including hand tools; weed whackers; pruners; both hand and pole-trimming equipment; non-riding mowers; etc. Be part of a team to manage the overall operation, organization, development, renovation, and maintenance of all Landscaping Operations.

Compensation:

$17.98/hour (non-exempt)

This is a Union position with 2 openings.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to: Landscaping/Nursery Supervisors and Lead Workers

Essential Duties

  • Perform general labor for Landscaping functions in areas as assigned.
  • Assist with keeping landscape materials organized, clean, and orderly while ensuring proper operation for all on-going Landscaping activities.
  • Assist with maintaining the inventory for all Landscaping projects, including watering; weeding; and organizing all Landscape materials.
  • With assistance from the Plant Health Technician, measure and apply both organic and non-organic fertilizers and amendments to soils and plants.
  • Maintain professional appearance and operation of uniform, tools, and equipment assigned for Landscaping activities.
  • Actively participate in training, support, direction, and guidance from Supervisors.
  • Report all maintenance and repairs required for equipment to the Supervisors.
  • Operate equipment, tools, and machinery associated with maintenance of the landscape, including hand tools; weed whackers; pruners; both hand and pole-trimming equipment; non-riding mowers and other tools as directed by supervisor.
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements:
  • Mid to entry level position with some experience in the landscaping industry.
  • Requires to following all safety standards for a landscape operation.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires good verbal communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
  • Must be flexible and available to work on weekends and/or holidays depending upon scheduled days of operation and season.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
  • The employee is occasionally required to operate objects, tools, or controls.
