
The City of Johnson CIty, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Landscape Technician I with the Public Works department. The employee performs intermediate semiskilled and technical work assisting with the development and design of landscaped areas and participating in the preparation and maintenance of sites; does related work as required. This is manual labor in the performance of semiskilled tasks of a physically demanding nature. Employees in this class work with and around and may operate various pieces of light automotive and mechanical equipment during a major portion of their time. Employees assist in designing and laying out landscaped areas. Limited supervision is exercised over landscape workers.
Essential Functions of Position:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the types and uses of tools and equipment used in landscaping, construction and maintenance work particularly as applied to specialized work to which assigned; general mechanical ability and ability to perform semiskilled and technical tasks in landscape, construction and maintenance activities; ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions; physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous manual labor for extended periods, under varying weather conditions.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from high school and considerable experience in performing landscaping work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Tennessee. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
