Summary

10-hour day, 40 hr. week, rotating shift. Direct supervision over equipment operators and mechanics. Receive general directions from Landfill Superintendent. Supervisory tasks required for day-to-day function and maintenance of solid waste disposal operations. Train personnel in safe operation of machinery and equipment. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety and occupational health standards, taking immediate action with personnel not in compliance. Maintain understanding of industry, equipment, tools, methods, techniques, terminology, records, and paperwork of Landfill operation required by WDEQ. Assess for operation and ability to operate light, medium and heavy equipment as required. Monitor and operate environmental monitoring equipment. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures. Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge.

  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) rules and regulations according to Landfill permit.
  • Maintains appropriate records and paperwork of Landfill operation.
  • Directs the allocation of equipment manpower resources to various repairs and operations. Sets priorities to deal with emergencies or unanticipated needs.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the Landfill budget. Submits recommendations. Monitors assigned line items.
  • Assesses light, medium, and heavy equipment daily in order to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Anticipates and schedules material supply and disbursement.
  • Schedules and reviews current and upcoming projects.
  • Verifies daily cash deposits. Transports deposits and mail, as needed.
  • Performs Spill Prevention Containment and Control (SPCC) inspections of bulk storage tanks according to EPA guidelines.
  • Performs related duties as required

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of landfill experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Class A driver's license
  • Wyoming Solid Waste Managers exam
