I. Job Summary
Ensures the safe and efficient daily operation of the landfill laboratory, in coordination with the laboratory manager.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures laboratory operations and data meet quality control objectives.
Ensure compliance with the current facility Waste Analysis Plan.
Supervise all laboratory personnel and manage the site chemical laboratory.
Adheres to waste analysis plan and RCRA regulations as it pertains to analysis and testing.
Reviews special waste to determine acceptability for hazardous waste disposal.
Performs routine laboratory functions as assigned.
Facilitates the receipt of materials for treatment and disposal in compliance with WM policies and procedures, including state and federal guidelines.
Identifies appropriate treatment and disposal methodologies to be utilized at the facility for the specific waste.
Oversees laboratory personnel, including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions
Ensures that the health and safety of the employees and environment is maximized.
Works with other supervisors/managers to coordinate services and keep them informed as issues arise.
Keeps laboratory manager fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his/her attention.
Makes personal contact with customers and assists them with questions and/or concerns as appropriate.
Ensures safety, cleanliness and organization of laboratory work area and related storage areas.
Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees.
Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Chemistry, or in lieu of degree,
High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience.
4 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)
B. Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with RCRA regulations and analytical testing methodology.
