Summary

Performs semiskilled work assisting with the operation of the landfill, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Landfill Supervisor.

Examples of duties

• Monitors the entrance to the County landfill.
• Directs customers to designated areas for the type of refuse being disposed of.
• Screens all loads to prevent the disposal of potentially hazardous and prohibited material.
• Weighs trucks as they enter and leave the facility.
• Collects disposal fees and issues receipts; prepares reports for Finance.
• Performs receptionist and clerical duties as required.
• Maintains the grounds around the facility.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of the various materials recycled by the County.
• Some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the operation of a landfill and solid waste/recyclables collection site.
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, and the public.

Supplemental information

• High school diploma or equivalent or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Valid Driver's License
