Job Description

The Corporate Land Manager is responsible for overseeing all company land and water records, including owned property, leased property, mining claims, rights‑of‑way, easements, permits, and related agreements. This role ensures compliance with all lease, rental, royalty, and mining claim payment obligations and maintains accurate records in both physical and electronic formats.

The position provides regular reporting to senior leadership, Legal, Exploration, and joint venture partners for assets with shared ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Land & Water Records Management

  • Create and maintain comprehensive land and water files.
  • Manage owned and leased land, including BLM leases, state leases, county leases, third‑party leases, mineral/grazing/ground leases, exploration permits, and use permits.
  • Administer unpatented mining claims, including maintenance fees, amendments, and location mapping (digital and field).
  • Manage rights‑of‑way, easements, licenses, and access agreements, including railroad rights‑of‑way.
  • Track rental and payment obligations and maintain timely renewals.
  • Prepare acreage and lease inventory reports.
  • Maintain updated electronic data for all leases, land rights, and water rights.
  • Verify ownership and boundary information for ASARCO and adjacent properties.
  • Compile and organize land maps, surveys, and related data.

Oil & Gas Administration

  • Manage oil and gas leases, royalty structures, division orders, and related lease documentation.

Lessee & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as the primary contact for third‑party lessees.
  • Ensure timely collection of rental payments.
  • Address operational or land‑related inquiries from lessees.
  • Negotiate lease renewals, extensions, and new agreements.
  • Evaluate and process all new lease requests.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and finalize lease agreements.

Zoning & Land Use Monitoring

  • Track zoning changes and land‑use proposals affecting company operations.
  • Attend public meetings and provide input on behalf of ASARCO.
  • Inform management of proposed or upcoming initiatives that could impact operations.

Research, Permitting & Internal Support

  • Conduct title research using state/county/BLM records.
  • Partner with geologists and surveyors to support new mining claims, exploration permits, and land‑use permitting.
  • Work closely with the Tax Department to verify ownership and ensure accurate tax payments.

Confidentiality Agreements

  • Review and process confidentiality agreements related to land transactions.
  • Maintain accurate maps ensuring no overlap or conflict.
  • Track and manage confidentiality agreement expiration dates.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, landowners, local authorities, and internal teams.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor staff as required.
  • Manage special projects assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to research, interpret, and analyze complex land documents (leases, contracts, permits, claims, survey maps, etc.).
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Preferred experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or equivalent mapping software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Thorough understanding of split mineral and surface estates.
  • Working knowledge of land and real estate law and the ability to recognize when legal counsel is needed.
  • Strong understanding of the Mining Law of 1872 and related state regulations.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in land management or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related land management experience
  • Legal experience is desirable.
  • GIS proficiency is preferred.
