Serve as the primary operational point of contact for all security matters relating to LAI activities in the DRC, providing day-to-day oversight and escalation support

Working Conditions

  • Role requires flexibility, including irregular hours and on-call availability for emergency response situations

LAI's operations in the DRC present a unique and complex security environment. The Security Co-ordinator is essential to protecting our people, cargo, and assets across the supply chain — from warehouse to final delivery. This role directly supports business continuity, builds trust with local partners and communities, and ensures LAI operates safely and responsibly in one of the most challenging logistics environments in Africa

Key Responsibilities

1. Security Co-ordination & Risk Management

  • Co-ordinate the implementation and enforcement of security policies, procedures, and protocols specific to LAI's trucking, logistics, and warehouse operations in the DRC
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits across LAI operational areas, identifying vulnerabilities and proposing practical mitigation measures
  • Working closely with the Asset Security Manager, co-ordinate trucker access to LAI sites, manage access control systems, oversee surveillance, and support incident response across all LAI transport routes
  • Monitor and analyse security threats, trends, and incidents relevant to LAI operations, producing timely reports and actionable plans for management
  • Actively work to prevent losses across all areas of LAI responsibility, including cargo, equipment, and infrastructure

2. Team Support & Operational Co-ordination

  • Support and co-ordinate security personnel embedded within LAI trucking, logistics, and warehouse teams, maintaining high standards of professionalism and operational readiness
  • Facilitate collaboration between LAI security teams and other internal departments (operations, HR, legal) to ensure security objectives are aligned with business needs
  • Act as liaison with local law enforcement, government agencies, and private security providers on matters affecting LAI operations

3. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all LAI security activities comply with DRC laws, applicable international security standards, and Trafigura's internal policies
  • Prepare and submit regular security reports to the LAI Operations Manager and Regional Security Lead, covering key metrics, incidents, trends, and improvement actions
  • Co-ordinate and support investigations into security breaches, theft, or other incidents affecting LAI, ensuring thorough documentation and appropriate follow-up

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal LAI stakeholders and external partners, including contractors, vendors, and community leaders relevant to DRC operations
  • Represent LAI's security interests in relevant forums, meetings, and discussions with local authorities and partners

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., CPP, PSP) is an advantage
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in security management, with at least 3 years in a co-ordination or leadership role within logistics, transport, or warehouse security
  • Demonstrated experience operating in high-risk environments, preferably within the DRC or sub-Saharan Africa

  • Strong IT, reporting, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to senior leadership
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Fluency in French and English is required; knowledge of Swahili or other local languages is a strong advantage
