Job Description

This position provides support for the caregiver infant breastfeeding/chest feeding dyad. Works collaboratively with the nursing team to make clinical assessments to address patient’s feeding needs and goals.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses patients’ lactation needs by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, and gathering information about the baby and family setting.
  • Analyzes and documents physical, psychological, and social factors in developing an individualized plan of care.
  • Communicates the plan of care and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team to provide coordinated patient treatment.
  • Keeps accurate medical records and updates nursing care whenever conditions, needs, or goals of the patient change.
  • Provides guidance to caregiver on proper positions and latch techniques to minimize potential complications.
  • Assists with positioning and latch, hand expression, alternative feeding methods such as cup, syringe and SNS.
  • Teaches lactation instruction to other healthcare professionals and monitors the proper performance of their training to patients.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice, guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols within area of lactation.
  • Manages, organizes and prioritizes competing responsibilities simultaneously and independently.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines and InterMed policies.
  • Perform other duties to support the mission, vision and values of InterMed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of clinical experience in maternal/child nursing required.
    • Proficient in Windows applications, electronic medical records preferred.
    • Excellent professional judgement and decision-making ability.
    • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • License/Certifications:
    • BLS required within 6 weeks of hire
    • IBCLC certification required
    • Registered Nurse required

The estimated compensation range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. Certain positions may be eligible for incentive compensation plans above and beyond base compensation.
