Job Description


The Lactation Consultant Educator, (CLE) is a registered nurse who provides lactation education to patients in compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing. The CLE works collaboratively with the Lactation Consultants and Program Managers, identifying, developing, implementing and evaluating lactation needs for the nursing staff in the Women and Infant Services unit.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.
Minimum Work Experience: None
Required Licenses/Certifications: RN License with State of Texas, Certified Lactation Counselor, and appropriate CPR certification are required.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Comprehension of all Texas Ten Steps principles and breastfeeding challenges.
Preferred Qualification: Certification by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants preferred with 1 year of hospital experience working with postpartum breastfeeding mothers.
 
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
2. Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
3. Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
5. Complies with all HIPAA standards.
6. Maintains knowledge of current regulatory standards as they pertain to the department and assures compliance and communication of stands to staff.
7. Reinforces HDHMD's Behavioral Expectations and Women's Center Behavior Pledge.
8. Provides education and support to mothers and families before delivery by facilitating prenatal breastfeeding classes.
9. Provides education to nursing staff of the Women and Infant Service unit in accordance with the Texas Ten Steps.
10. Collaborates with the Unit's Lactation Consultants, Program Managers and Educators in identifying, developing, implementing and evaluating lactation needs for nursing staff.
