Position Summary

The Labour Relations Associate will provide support to the Labour Relations Manager. Responsibilities will include providing support for collective bargaining, including benchmarking, assisting with costing, conducting research and analysis, assisting with proposal development, preparing reports and documentation, arranging meetings and taking minutes. Responsibilities will also include providing day-to-day labour relations support, such as researching grievances, conducting research and analysis, and preparing grievance reports; and responding to general labour relations inquiries. The success candidate for this position will be required to deal with confidential and sensitive information as it pertains to all areas of labour relations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collective Bargaining:
  • Conducting Benchmarking and analyzing findings.
  • Producing Benchmarking reports, including summaries.
  • Assisting with costing for bargaining.
  • Conducting research and analysis.
  • Assisting with proposal development.
  • Preparing reports and documentation.
  • Arranging all meetings, including preparatory meetings and bargaining meetings.
  • Taking minutes of meetings.
  • Preparing correspondence as required.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Day-to-Day Labour Relations:
  • Responding to general labour relations inquiries.
  • Researching grievances as required,
  • Conducting benchmarking research and analysis related to grievances.
  • Preparing grievance reports.
  • Assisting with all preparations for arbitrations.
  • Provide support for project/special assignment related to labour relations as required, including conducting research, and assembling pertinent materials, as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in an HR role
  • CHRP designation is an asset

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Minium 2 years’ experience assisting with Collective Bargaining.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in labour relations role.
  • Experience with benchmarking research, analysis and creating presentations/reports.
  • Experience using an HRIS system.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be highly collaborative
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Highly developed customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively, with tact, courtesy, discretion and diplomacy with all levels of staff and the public.
