Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of manual labor tasks and other duties as assigned. This is accomplished by working as part of a turf maintenance crew and engaging in routine parks maintenance work.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Examples of duties

  • Serves as a crew member for parks and athletic field maintenance work;
  • Maintains and repairs park athletic fields through manual labor;
  • Performs litter control using a light-duty truck;
  • Transports trailers, mowers, and other equipment;
  • Loads and unloads supplies and materials;
  • Works throughout parks and completes ballfield layouts, mows turf, drags baseball and softball fields, paints fields, and sprays herbicides;
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment to complete landscaping tasks;
  • Assists in setting up for events and programs;
  • Operates mowers, tractors, and implements to complete athletic field maintenance duties;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • Six months of manual labor experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • relevant machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
  • policies and procedures to promote a safe and secure work environment.

Supplemental information

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • This position will occasionally be required to be available for special events and athletic tournaments, as well as being available during inclement weather.
  • This position will occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
