This position provides physical labor toward the production of dailyvessel operations, to includesupportingterminal laborfunctions,cleaning and inspecting containers,assistingwith the agricultural inspections, transfers and transloads, general maintenance work,and providing support to other operational departmentsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Experience performing heavy labor tasks, including liftingover 50- 100lbs, and moving heavy objects, handling physically demanding activities
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, and hammers.
  • Ability to use a hand-held device.
  • Basic English communication skills (verbal/written).
  • Must have organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to think logically, follow procedures,instructionsand make sound decisions.
  • Ability toestablishand maintain effective working relationships with customers,vendorsand fellow employees.
  • Ability toworka flexible schedule, extended hours,overnight,weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within60days of employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary:
  • Assist in the Stevedoring department by working with forklift basket up to heights of around 14 feet to place or remove container hooks or strapping used for lifting containers, pipes and general cargo, secure cargo with chains/binders when preparing for lifting andstrap cargo by utilizing lashings, container hooks, wire rope weighing more than 100 lbsto assure safe operation
  • Utilizes a handheld computer to enter or scan container numbers and update container location.
  • AssistMaintenancedepartmentwithvariousfunctionsincluding light painting,changing outour repairingdamaged signage, lightmaintenanceof thepropertyto includegeneralrepair, and maintenance of terminal buildings,structuresand exterior areas
  • Assist in TIRLane with opening/closing doors, performing sweep outs/blow outs of containers, adding/removing damage tags, assisting the clerks as needed (passing out TIR tickets/running paperworkinside when the clerks are shorthanded, etc), help with directing traffic during congestion, and keeping the area clean and clear of debris.
  • Assistin the South Yard by manually liftingand placingwood on ground to prepare setup for cargoandsecuringcargo to various piecesof equipment such as chassis andmofettesbeing delivered to the vessel
  • Sweep,washand clean empty containers.
  • Inspectsempty containers for damage.
  • Tags all containers for either their readiness, need for repair, or washing.
  • Moves office furniture within departments as needed.
  • Operates a forklift tomove parts/supplies for projects in terminal.
  • Mustmaintaina clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
  • Maintains awareness of surroundings (i.e.vehicles, people checking equipment, etc.)at all times
Secondary
  • Assistswith thevariousinspections by opening/closing container doors.
  • Assistwith twist lock repairs for vessel and terminal operations
  • Cross-trained in other functions to provide support tootheroperational departmentsas needed
  • Performsadditionalduties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Subjection to physical and/or DOT Screening may berequiredalong with other tests as applicable.
  • The employee isfrequentlyrequired to sit,talkand hear.
  • The employee must exert an excess of 100lbsof force occasionally and an excess of 50lbsof forcefrequently
  • The employee mustfrequentlylift and carry up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 110lbs.
  • The employeeis required tofrequentlypush and pull over 100lbs.
  • The employee isfrequentlyrequired to bend forward, craw or twist, pinch, reach overhead, exercise eye-hand coordination, use repetitive wrist and foot motion, finger dexterityexerciseandfrequentlyeye-hand coordination.
  • The employeeis continuously required tostand, walk, reach forward, grasp, handle, feel oroperateobjects,tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employeeis occasionally required toclimb, squat, balance, stoop, kneel crouch,crawland smell
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Reports directly to theTerminal Operations Supervisor. May receive direction from theSupervisorForeman/Header of the assigned departmentDoes not exercise supervision over any position.
CONDITIONS:
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors; exposed to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity, and changing weather during day and night shifts
  • Indoor exposure to controlled temperatures.
  • The employee continuously works near moving vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.).
  • The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
  • Drive automated and stick vehicles, low to moderate vibration.
  • Moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system
