Job Description

Perform tasks involving physical labor indoors and outdoors, movement of material, equipment and parts between production areas, operating hand/power tools of all types. Assists other Facility Maintenance staff with various tasks. Responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding the facility. Plants flowers, mows, pulls weeds, repairs structures, and maintains outside of building.

The pay rate for this position is: $30.87/hour + $4.93/hour H&W

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Locates and moves materials, equipment, and parts between work areas of project location/site to expedite processing of goods, according to pre-determined schedules, needs and priorities.
  • General knowledge in the use of manual hand tools and power hand tools.
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • General manual labor to include use of hand tools and provide manual labor support for project activities and site location.
  • Possess good housekeeping skills with attention to detail on environmental hazardous to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of hazardous contaminants.
  • Assists other Facility Maintenance staff with various tasks.
  • Perform grounds keeping and build maintenance duties. Maintain the landscaping in an aesthetic, environmentally sustainable, and professional manner.
  • Mow lawn either by hand or using a riding lawnmower
    • Mowing shall occur as needed in order to maintain grass at the desired height of 2 inches
  • Must be proficient in techniques in pruning trees and shrubs correctly
  • Able to identify noxious weeds as specified in the Statement of Work (SOW)
  • Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes
  • May be required to apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and other
  • Perform routine maintenance duties such as applying plaster, fixing fountains, and other duties
  • Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger
  • Edging at all tree mounds, plant beds, curbs, sidewalks, and other paved areas
  • Prune Trees (which include but are not limited to vine maple, rhododendron, flowering cherry, cedar, etc.)
  • Prune Shrubs (which include but are not limited to evergreen huckleberry, red flowering currant, azaleas, ferns, etc.)
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds
  • Reports damaged plants in need of replacement to Project Manager and on-site client contact
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping
  • Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed
  • Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Real ID
  • Knowledge of power tools; includes their designs, uses, repair and maintenance, and the practical application of use, general landscaping knowledge and capabilities, including pruning of trees and shrubs
  • Ability to complete pre-employment background check and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Course
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER refresher
  • Lead Awareness course completion
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Shareholder Preference:

  • Pursuant to PL 93-638, as amended, preference will be given to qualified Ahtna Native Corporation Shareholders, Descendants, and Spouses in all phases of employment.

Working Environment:

  • Will be outdoors and indoors, subject to changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):

  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials. [Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions].

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
