What can you expect?

As the Laborer, you will work onsite and primarily be working on projects within Alaska or the L48 states performing tasks involving physical labor including operating hand/power tools of all types: small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials after appropriate training and certifications. May assist other craft workers for duties as assigned.

How will you do it?

  • Provide assistance to Project Manager, Site Superintendent, Foreman, Operator, or other Laborer and support staff in the field
  • Clean and prepare sites as needed, safely removing and properly disposing of debris and waste materials.
  • General manual labor includes use of hand tools and provide manual labor during excavation activities, clean-up or other activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures, identify and report any hazards as observed for safety of personnel and equipment
  • Requires the ability to properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) on HAZWOPER sites or other sites as needed
  • Monitor job site for hazards and maintain a safe working environment
  • Report incidents immediately to immediate supervisor and/or Human Resources in accordance with the incident reporting procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean job site with attention to detail to prevent hazards and to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of hazardous contaminants
  • Store materials properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis
  • Travel to remote environmental or construction sites as directed by management
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by site superintendent, other craft laborers or management

Supervisory Functions:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their uses, repair and maintenance and practical applications preferred.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Ability to adapt to change in the workplace and working in a high stress environment
  • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Ability to focus on a goal and obtain a pre-determined result
  • Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Who is Brice Environmental Services looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to pass security vetting as required for access to military installation job sites.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screening.
  • HAZWOPER certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their uses, repair and maintenance and practical applications preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
  • Asbestos 40-hour certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Environmental Services Driving Policy preferred.
  • Experience in environmental or construction industry preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Predominantly field assignments outdoors with potential for lodging to be at a remote camp
  • Outdoor conditions may be subject to changes in weather conditions and noise levels
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work long hours to support rigorous timelines
