Job Description

A laborer is an essential member of the construction team who performs various manual tasks to support the successful completion of construction projects. Working under the supervision of skilled tradespeople and project managers, construction laborers contribute to the overall progress and efficiency of the construction site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Site Preparation:
  • Assisting in the preparation of construction sites by clearing debris, removing obstacles, and ensuring proper safety measures are in place.
  • Digging trenches, excavating areas, and grading surfaces as required.
  1. Material Handling:
    • Loading and unloading construction materials, tools, and equipment.
    • Distributing materials to different areas of the construction site as directed.
    • Organizing and maintaining an inventory of construction materials and supplies.
  2. Construction Tasks:
    • Assisting skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers, with their tasks.
    • Operating hand tools, power tools, and small machinery under proper guidance.
    • Mixing and pouring concrete, assisting with formwork, and performing concrete finishing tasks.
    • Installing and removing temporary structures, scaffolding, and safety barriers.
  3. Cleanup and Maintenance:
    • Cleaning and maintaining construction sites, including the removal of debris and hazardous materials.
    • Performing regular inspections to identify potential safety hazards and reporting any issues to supervisors.
    • Organizing and storing tools, equipment, and materials in a safe and orderly manner.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhering to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies to ensure a safe work environment.
    • Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and using safety equipment correctly.
    • Participating in safety meetings and toolbox talks to stay informed about potential hazards and safe work practices.
    • Perform work in a safe manner and actively encourages others to do the same.
  5. Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborating effectively with other construction team members, including supervisors, tradespeople, and other laborers.
    • Communicating clearly and following instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
    • Demonstrating a positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical stamina and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.

Basic knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and safety practices.

Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Willingness to learn and follow instructions from supervisors.

Valid driver's license (if required).

LANGUAGE SKILLS
