What does a Laborer do?

  • Performs indoor general labor duties:moves, organizes & stores all incoming & outgoing furniture & equipment, (e.g. washers, dryers, etc.)

  • Sets up tables, chairs & floor coverings as requested by work order

  • Moves records (medical, human resources, program etc.)to various areas as requested by work order

  • Assists with housekeeping duties (e.g. sweeps, mops, dust, wax and strip floors, cleans windows)

  • On a monthly basis cleans all hood filters and lights in a building.Picks up & delivers (e.g., soiled & clean laundry, boxes, residential unit supplies)

  • Drives hand truck, plow trucks, lift gate truck.

  • Operates housekeeping equipment (buffer, propane buffer, vacuums, scrubbers and wet & dry vacuums, etc.)

  • Assists maintenance workers on jobs as needed/requested

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. In accordance with Section 124.11 (B)(2) of Revised Code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.

Supplemental Information

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be exposed to inclement weather; may work weekends.

  • Hourly wage will be paid at step 1, unless otherwise specified by collective bargaining agreement or rules outlined in the ORC/OAC.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02, “Background Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being employed by the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.
