About the role

We are seeking a Testing Supervisor to join our blood testing team at the Sydney Processing Centre, playing a critical leadership role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of testing outcomes that support Lifeblood’s mission.

In this role, you will lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Testing laboratory, ensuring the successful delivery of the testing schedule through effective coordination of resources, workflow optimisation, and strong team leadership. Your work will directly contribute to the timely release of blood and blood products, supporting patient care and reinforcing a culture of service excellence.

As a leader you will influence both operational performance and team culture. In collaboration with other supervisors, you will lead & manage a team of over 40 staff, including scientists, senior technicians, and technicians. Together, you will foster a positive, inclusive, and psychologically safe working environment, while actively supporting team development, capability uplift, and alignment to organisational strategic priorities.

A day in the role will see you:

  • Leading the Testing team to deliver core laboratory activities, including infectious disease screening, Nucleic Acid testing, blood grouping, antibody screening, bacterial screening, and confirmatory testing etc.
  • Planning and managing rosters and shifts, adjusting resources to meet changing demands
  • Coordinate closely with upstream and downstream teams to ensure smooth end-to-end operations
  • Oversee the review and authorisation of testing results to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Partnering with other Supervisors to recruit, coach, and develop team members
  • Support the Scientific Operations Manager in monitoring performance and delivering operational priorities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and workflow
  • Ensure all activities meet required quality standards and regulatory compliance (GMP and NATA)

Sound interesting? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience in laboratory or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, ideally within regulated GMP/GLP settings; pathology laboratory testing experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise large teams, with prior experience in a testing or laboratory environment highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of standard operating procedures and the ability to apply them across a range of technical processes
  • Proven capability to plan, coordinate, and manage team performance to deliver on operational KPIs
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and prioritise effectively

You will be based at the Sydney Processing Centre, Alexandria, working on a rotational roster from Monday to Sunday across shifts between 5:00am and 1:00am. This role includes on-call responsibilities and occasional work on public holidays.
