Salary or Pay Band: Pay band 8 $2,451.58 - $2,928.31 biweekly



The laboratory technologist provides support and assistance for staff and students by ensuring labs are prepared for staff and ready for quality student learning. Duties will include all aspects of lab set up, specimen acquisition and preparation and lab take down. Duties may also include installation, setup, as well as calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and arranging for repair of lab equipment. The successful applicant will recommend the purchase of capital, materials, and supplies, maintain inventories and required documentation, keep informed of changes in laboratory practices, material and equipment. The laboratory technologist will be aware of workplace hazards and participate in establishing and enforcing safe work practices in the laboratory. Some travel may be required.

Education

Degree or Diploma in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT)

Licenses

Active registration and current licensure with the applicable national and/or provincial regulatory body.

Other Education and Training

Minimum of two years of recent, relevant experience as a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). or in a related field in a Canadian laboratory, including clinical laboratory.

Competencies

  • Driver’s License Class 5

  • Experience in the use and maintenance of equipment and medical laboratory analyzers

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, emergency response procedures, dangerous goods handling, and biohazard waste disposal.

  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and supply vendors.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, faculty, and supervisors.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity.
