Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking experienced professionals to join our Operations and Facilities as Laboratory Technicians in Shielded Cells. Job duties will consist of operating remote-controlled equipment in hot cells to conduct chemical tests on radioactive materials. Operate and control manipulators from outside cell to remove metal or chemical materials from shielded containers inside hot cell and places on bench or equipment workstation. Responsible for the cleaning and decontamination of cells during maintenance shutdown. Work requires precision in following the requirements associated with Conduct of Operations, Criticality Safety controls, Radiological controls, and waste management of nuclear materials.

  • Develops partnerships with internal/external team members.
  • Able to communicate well in straight-forward situations.
  • Collaborates effectively with other working groups such as Research & Development and Engineering.
  • Does not manage employees but may mentor and/or train new employees.
  • Implements changes provided by management.
  • Completes routine and repetitive tasks where tasks are straightforward.
  • Works safely with particular attention to quality.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Maintain appropriate level government security clearance.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations within the laboratory setting.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure tasks and projects are completed efficiently.
  • Follow written protocols and standard operating procedures meticulously.
  • Design/modify/mockup laboratory equipment, allowing for remote operation in a hot cells environment.
  • Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures; receives guidance and oversight from supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS (or Equivalent)

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
  • Strong ability to follow written directions and standard operating procedures.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Applied Math minimum score = 3
  • Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information) minimum score = 4
  • Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information) minimum score = 4
  • Workplace Observation minimum score = 2

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AS/AA preferred in Engineering, Chemistry, or related technical degree.
  • Experience in DOE National Laboratory setting and conduct of operations.
  • Previous laboratory and/or radiological work experience.
  • Good knowledge of scientific, engineering, and nuclear process principles.
