The Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking a Laboratory Technician III to support the new and ongoing clinical operations and research studies being performed in the division. The Laboratory Technician III will process clinical and research samples daily according to the established protocols, as well as perform quality control activities to ensure accurate and dependable results. As part of the laboratory team, the Laboratory Technician III will problem solve issues arising with the lab instruments, controls, or samples, in addition to assisting with developing new clinical and research testing procedures in response to any new activity in the lab. As new studies are added, or as processes are streamlined, the Laboratory Technician III will need to communicate with other lab and research staff to ensure best practices are being followed for specimen collection and transportation. This position requires attention to detail, organization of multiple simultaneous process, and an understanding of how the laboratory is an essential component in the clinical research process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing on clinical and research specimens as established per protocol. Problem solves issues with instruments/controls/reagents/kits/samples.

  • Perform and maintain quality control records and test proficiency samples.

  • Assist with the development of new procedures and processes for clinical and research testing.

  • Communicate with research staff regarding best practices for collection and transportation of specimens. Provide training to lab staff and research staff as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or a medical laboratory science such as a Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science degree.

  • ASCP certifications.

  • Related laboratory experience.

  • Experience with clinical research activities, molecular diagnostic, serological and microbiology.

Competencies

  • Excellent laboratory instrument processing and strict adherence to sterile technique.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly effective organizational and time management abilities.

  • Proficient in database management and data accuracy.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
