The Laboratory Technician II prepares the kitchen laboratory, classrooms, food truck, and demonstrations in accordance with lesson plans, assists in the troubleshooting of equipment and software to meet the needs of the lesson plan and cleans up after the lesson has concluded. Ultimately, ensuring the laboratory is secure, equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored properly. The Laboratory Technician II must hold a CDL license and be approved by the College to drive the food truck.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the scheduling of the food truck at events, gathering venue logistics such as ingress & egress locations, and ensuring that fire permits are obtained.
  • Drives the food truck to scheduled venues.
  • Tracks gas mileage of the food truck and monitors gasoline levels in the generator and propane levels, refilling as needed.
  • Prepares classroom kitchen labs, food truck, and demonstration kitchens with the necessary materials and equipment to operate the lab and food truck.
  • Sets up and prepares equipment for kitchen labs and food truck, helps load and unload the truck, ensuring the truck is left in a sanitary condition.
  • Arranges supplies and equipment as kitchen labs and food truck requirements change.
  • Maintains and cleans the kitchen labs, stockroom, equipment, and food truck (interior and exterior).
  • Applies identification and date labels to food and ensures temperature logs are used and maintained.
  • Properly disposes of laboratory waste materials, drains wastewater from the food truck, and ensures the clean water tank is filled whenever the truck is used.
  • Assists faculty and students in the kitchen labs and food truck; sometimes during educational sessions, by providing technical troubleshooting support on equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools, logging all repair/maintenance with copies of work-orders and receipts.
  • Assists faculty with the development and implementation of new kitchen lab and food truck procedures and/or curricula.
  • Secures kitchen lab area and food truck.
  • Assists with inventory as needed.
  • May record and monitor expenditures and charges relevant to kitchen labs and food truck operations.
  • May functionally supervise Work Study Students, Student Assistants and Part-Time Lab Technicians in the lab.
  • Prepares, maintains and monitors supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Assists Director in ordering, receiving, and storing supplies.
  • Assists with set-up and break-down of kitchen labs and classrooms when necessary.
  • Ensures that all necessary truck licenses and permits are accurate and up to date.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • High School degree or GED
  • Holds a current, unencumbered CDL license.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an upscale food service establishment.
  • Holds a ServSafe Manager Certificate or can obtain within 90 days of hire.:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to drive and maneuver a 30-foot food truck.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety rules and processes, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Possess basic computer skills and ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to determine needs and identify solutions.
  • Experience with data collection has a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of regular work.
  • Possess working knowledge of kitchen lab and food truck concepts, practices, and procedures with the ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus.
  • Possess strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of students and the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Work is partially performed in a kitchen lab or food truck setting.
  • Work is partially performed in an environment exposing employees to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, open flames, heat and hot equipment, sharp objects, or exposure to chemicals or biological hazards
  • Work will require walking with a sense of urgency over several hours and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

This is a Part-Time (1199/SEIU) Bargaining Unit Position, Grade 08. Part-Time (1199/SEIU) bargaining unit employees at Cuyahoga Community College will be considered first for vacant positions.
Target Hiring Rate: Minimum salary $$21.50/hr
