Description

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food and Nutrition is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This position under direct supervision, performs difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to a function of a clinical, environmental, teaching or research laboratory; maintains laboratory area and equipment.The department intends to hire one candidate from either Lab Tech I classification or Lab Tech II classification, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please specific which classification you which to be considered or both in your application.Prepare and label specialty formulasDeliver specialty and stock formulas to patient area.Prepares the preparation of standardized mixes of chemicals according to established procedures.Performs duties related to diet plans, cleaning, experimental observations and records, etc.Monitor and order formulas as needed to maintain par levels of formula in the formula storage room -Complete required quality assurance records for formula room equipment and formula delivery -Cleans and maintains the laboratory area and equipment.Makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment.Maintains supplies and equipment in laboratory area and reports stock deficiencies.Respond to telephone and voalte inquiries from patient units and healthcare providers University of Iowa Health Care—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. Qualifications

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:Lab Tech I - One year of related experience, or any combination of related experience and/or related undergraduate courses in physical or natural sciences that is equivalent to one year of full-time employment. Lab Tech II - Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or Certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years. Special Qualification/License:Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
