At Doncasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our team in Long Beach, CA.

The position pays an hourly rate of $30-$35.

The Role

The laboratory technician is responsible for the daily activity that involves analysis of a variety of elements associated with alloy manufacturing using:

ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) spectroscopy
OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer)
XRF (X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer)
Carbon/Sulfur and Oxygen/Nitrogen/Hydrogen Analyzers
Various laboratory preparation instrumentation/tooling

The laboratory technician is expected to interact with Technical, Quality, EH&S, and Production staff.
To accomplish this requires skills and knowledge which may include but are not limited to: computer knowledge (including experience with spreadsheets) and some college level chemistry/science and math courses in helping to analyze data and calculate element additions.
The chemistry technician must be able to: follow instructions, be flexible with scheduling, adjust priorities, communicate well, be organized and plan each task in advance.

  • B.S. in science or equivalent
  • Equivalence is a minimum of 5 years of experience operating lab instrumentation and completion of a least one college level chemistry class
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computers (excel, word, Microsoft)
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds individually and in a team environment.
  • Required to stand during majority of shift
  • Required dexterity and strength to manipulate samples and/or instrumentation during routine tasks, finding/storing samples and supplies

Qualifications

Associates degree in chemistry or equivilant and/or a minimum of five years experience at operating ICPs and GFAAs and completion of a least one college-level chemistry class.

If you have excellent interpersonal skills with experience in a test lab environment; manufacturing industry experience highly preferred as well as experience with test lab equipment such as: GFAA (Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption), ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) spectrometers, OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer), XRF (X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer), Carbon/Sulfur and Oxygen/Nitrogen Analysers, then we would love to hear from you.
