Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technician within the Alloy Plant at our Exeter site. This role operates on a 3-shift rotation, and reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.

3 -Shift Rotation consists of 6am-2pm/2pm-10pm/10pm-6am. Shift premium payable.


Your main responsibilities will include;

  • Analysis of alloy samples by instrumental techniques using; Combustion, Optical emission and X-ray Fluorescence techniques. Samples include preliminary melt samples, certification samples, and remelt samples from casting plants and external customers

  • Preparation of samples for analysis

  • Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • Routine standardisation of laboratory equipment

  • Maintaining 5S within laboratory

  • Inputting of results to LIMS

  • Calculating bath additions during heat manufacture using LIMS and Optimat

  • A good attitude to working safely and demonstrates the values of Howmet Aerospace
  • A science background with good mathematical and computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret results and make decisions on alloy chemistry adjustments within the scope of the role.
  • Flexibility to work within a small team to provide 24/7 laboratory cover
  • Meticulous, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Able to work alone, self-sufficiently, and independently prioritise tasks.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
