Job Summary

Obtains specimens for laboratory testing via venipuncture, finger sticks and swabs, assists in processing medical laboratory tests and documenting results. Processes x-rays.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations. Performs waived and moderate complexity laboratory analysis on selected samples for patients such as blood counts, mono test, strep test, pregnancy test, chlamydia, sickle cell, various chemistry tests, urinalysis, wet prep, KOH, etc. Assists in performing quality control checks on all testing kits and instruments. Assists in proficiency testing on known samples of CLIA rules. Performs x-rays on patients and trains additional personnel on imaging techniquesAssists in maintaining all service on instruments. Assists in keeping records of all laboratory work done, maintenance, and any specimens sent out of laboratory. Cross-trained in ordering of lab and x-ray suppliesPractices universal precautions of health care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree and 2 years experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen processing.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesProficient in standard laboratory equipment such as chemistry analyzers, centrifuge, hematology instruments and limited microscopy necessary to perform waived and moderate complexity testing and phlebotomy skills.Excellent phlebotomy skills including appropriate technique, familiarity with proper collection devices for ordered labs and knowledge of appropriate storage needs for specimens.Proficient in pipetting.Knowledge of proper digital Xray techniques and positioning to capture views as ordered by providers.Utilizes personal and network computers, imaging machine, photocopy machine, scanner, fax machine and calculator.Proficient in the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Electronic Health Record Software (experience with PyraMed electronic health record software preferred). Preferred Qualifications

X-ray training preferred (or willingness to be trained within first 30-60 days of employment).

Previous healthcare laboratory experience preferred
