The Laboratory Support Technician is responsible for general management of all Laboratories at BioAgilytix. You will be responsible for assisting with laboratory maintenance and equipment maintenance. The Laboratory Support Technician is responsible for maintaining all BioAgilytix labs in an audit ready state. This includes housekeeping and day to day support for scientific staff.

Essential Responsibilities

    Lab Maintenance

  • Assists with maintaining and stocking laboratory supplies
  • Orders, tracks, stocks and maintains the laboratories with the appropriate lab reagents, consumables, equipment and glassware
  • Consolidates boxes and Styrofoam for discard/recycle
  • Assists with restocking and keeping up with general supplies
  • Assists in maintaining a high level of housekeeping within the laboratories
  • Stores clean glassware, wash dirty glassware if needed
  • Checks for expired reagents and consumables
  • Escorts/helps biohazard, calibration, and other service vendors.
  • Ensures lab coats and PPE are stocked for use
  • Equipment/ Lab Automation

  • Sets up, maintains, troubleshoots general laboratory equipment.
  • Assists in the generation, revision, and/or review of laboratory or equipment-related SOPs and other quality documents
  • Assists with defrosts of -20; De-ice of -80 (as needed)
  • Monitors/manages supplies and unpack/restock as supplies arrive
  • Assists with equipment assembly, ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Assists with the set up and take down of various areas for company meetings, town halls, etc.
  • Ability to learn QMS to process work orders for calibrations, PM’s and other equipment maintenance tracking processes.
  • Provides training and support for scientific staff in the use of simple systems.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting technical issues that arise in a production environment.
  • Work with vendors to facilitate instrument installation, maintenance, and performance monitoring.

Minimum Preferred Qualifications: Education/Experience

  • High school diploma and 1 year experience in a shipping, receiving, or similar environment.
  • Not less than two (2) years’ experience in a laboratory environment or related experience, preferably in a GLP, GMP, or regulated facility OR Associate degree in biology, biotechnology, or related field with not less than one (1) year experience in a laboratory environment or related experience, preferably in a GLP, GMP, or regulated facility - preferred

Minimum Preferred Qualifications: Skills

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Well organized with ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously; ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • NetSuite, QCBD, and LIMS knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Trouble shooting equipment (Plate washers, Plate readers, Liquid handling equipment, Etc.)

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no supervisory responsibility

Supervision Received

  • Frequent supervision and instructions
  • Infrequently exercises discretionary authority

Working Environment

  • Primarily office and laboratories
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets
  • Personal protective equipment required, such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves
  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures on rare occasions

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an upright and/or stationary position for up to eight (8) hours per day
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate office and lab equipment
  • Frequent mobility needed
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moving) objects, including office equipment, lab equipment, and laptop computer, with a maximum lift of 40 pounds
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software
  • Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence
  • Ability to perform under stress and multi-task
  • Regular and consistent attendance

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours as published in the BioAgilytix Employee Handbook
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required
