We are seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to join our Microbiology team. This full time role will work days, with the possibility of covering into the evening and coming in early to meet with night shift.

Purpose of this position: Assists in implementing and maintaining laboratory processes and procedures as well as assisting in setting and achieving laboratory goals for operational area(s). Works under the direction of laboratory management.

Promotes and maintains high standards for laboratory staff, following good laboratory practices. Fosters patient and family centered care behaviors in our laboratory employees and in our operational processes. Serves as a Laboratory champion and liaison to all customers, for process improvement initiative and for problem resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates to the staff organizational and operational goals/initiatives through daily huddles, staff meetings, and attends required laboratory and organizational staff meetings, including meeting with laboratory management on a regular basis
  • Is trained and competent to perform bench duties as required
  • Maintains department operating budget, supplies, staffing productivity and equipment use
    • Assists Laboratory Management in identifying capital needs and support capital process
    • Coordinate the evaluation of new supplies or equipment under the direction of the Medical Director
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels for assigned areas, coordinates training, and adjusts staffing to meet changing business needs of the organization
  • Hires and performs supervisory duties including but not limited to: coaching, discipline, implementation of performance improvement plans, when needed, and facilitating staff performance feedback
  • Develops and coordinates staff competency assessments and goal setting, including any corrective actions necessary
  • Maintains reliability, functionality, and safety of all test systems in their assigned area. Including but not limited to: documentation of procedures, meeting accreditation and regulatory standards, including all documentation, coordination of proficiency testing program, coordination of quality control program, and implementing corrective actions and reviewing with medical director, when necessary

Microbiology

Scope: Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics

  • Liaison and consultant to clinical teams, infection prevention, and clients of on microbiology collection and testing procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

For Clinical Laboratory:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Science
  • 5 years of laboratory medicine experience

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than five years’ experience
  • At least two years of supervisory/administration experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Customer Service skills
  • Effective at using Windows-based applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

License/Certifications:

For Clinical Laboratory:

  • Certified as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS (NCA), Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP) or approved equivalent (HEW)
