This is an exciting opportunity to join Fugro at a pivotal moment of growth. We're expanding our geotechnical laboratory capabilities and establishing a new rock testing function, creating a unique opportunity for a Laboratory Supervisor to help shape, develop and lead this growing area of the business. You'll play a key role in delivering the high-quality geotechnical data that underpins major infrastructure, energy and environmental projects around the world, while helping to build the next chapter of our laboratory operations. Reporting to the Team Lead - Rock Testing, you'll lead a team of skilled technicians, influence how the new department evolves, and contribute to a pipeline of exciting projects that will support our continued growth and innovation. Your role and responsibilities:

  • Lead the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the geotechnical laboratory, ensuring testing programmes are delivered on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
  • Help establish and grow Fugro's expanding rock testing capability, contributing to the development of processes, resources and best practices as the department evolves.
  • Supervise, coach and support a team of laboratory technicians, helping to create an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing working environment.
  • Perform and oversee geotechnical testing on soil, rock and aggregate samples in accordance with industry standards, client specifications and Fugro procedures.
  • Monitor laboratory performance, resource planning and scheduling, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality and service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure accurate recording, analysis and reporting of test data, maintaining robust data integrity and quality assurance standards.
  • Act as a key operational contact for laboratory activities, collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders and clients while proactively managing risks and resolving issues.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by promoting best practice, conducting risk assessments, supporting investigations, and ensuring compliance with all QHSE requirements.

What you'll need to thrive in this role:

  • Experience working in a laboratory or other regulated technical environment, with a strong understanding of laboratory operations and health & safety requirements.
  • Previous experience supervising, coordinating or mentoring team members in a technical, operational or laboratory setting.
  • Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and support team performance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and confidence in recording, analysing and reporting technical data using Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel.
  • A relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • An educational background in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or a related discipline are advantageous.

Desirable:

  • Experience in geotechnical soil and rock testing.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, accreditation requirements or laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Willingness to occasionally travel and support offshore or field-based investigations in the UK and internationally.
