Reporting to the NSW Technical Manager Asphalt, the Laboratory Supervisor will supervise the laboratory operations for the Asphalt Business in Sydney Metro and Southern Region. They will be responsible for ensuring efficient and cost-effective management of the laboratories at Enfield, Port Kembla and Canberra (including mobile laboratories), including meeting NATA laboratory certification requirements and meeting all inspection and testing requirements for asphalt & sprayed sealing raw materials and finished products in a safe, timely and efficient manner. This role is based at our Enfield/Greenacre NSW site and will require some travel to Port Kembla and Canberra.

Your day will involve:

  • Supervise and lead a team of Technicians based in the laboratory and Field Technicians at mobile sites to support Asphalt testing including coordinating rosters and resources for shifts
  • Conduct testing in accordance with NATA standards, laboratory work instructions, test methods, preparation instructions and manuals
  • Ensure maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment as required
  • Coordinate ordering of consumables and materials
  • Maintain, observe, and take part in the statutory safety requirements of the Laboratory operations
  • Provision of daily test reporting to customers and involvement in monthly business KPI reporting
  • Proactively lead and promote safe work in the laboratory and focus on process improvement.

What are we looking for?

  • Previous construction materials laboratory experience
  • Any experience with asphalt products will be highly regarded but is not essential
  • Tertiary qualifications in science or another relevant discipline will be highly regarded but is not essential
  • Minimum Certificate V in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent is desirable
  • Previous team leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Australian and Industry standards including NATA & ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
  • Well developed skills and understanding of computer systems for monitoring and reporting of data.
