The Package
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for a Laboratory Scientist Chemistry Degree Apprentice to join the team, supporting laboratory activities and contributing to research, development, and innovation.
This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a career in chemistry/materials and laboratory science, offering the opportunity to develop technical knowledge and practical skills in a supportive and collaborative environment. You will gain experience working on product development, laboratory testing, and continuous improvement initiatives, while building confidence in problem solving, communication, and working with cross-functional teams.
Please note: This role may also be offered as a Laboratory Scientist Materials Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6) if you are more suited to this programme. Details of this programme can be found HERE
You’re naturally curious about chemistry and interested in understanding how substances interact, react, and behave under different conditions. You enjoy applying scientific principles in a practical setting, exploring why reactions happen and how they can be controlled or improved.
You’re comfortable working in a laboratory environment and enjoy hands-on experimentation, from preparing samples to analysing results. You work in a methodical, structured way, following detailed procedures with accuracy and care. Attention to detail is important to you, and you take pride in producing precise, reliable data.
You think critically and approach problems with a logical mindset, especially when results don’t go as expected. You’re confident working with data, calculations, and reports, and communicate your findings clearly. Motivated to build technical expertise, you’re interested in contributing to areas such as research, product development, or chemical processes while continuously refining your skills.
Apprenticeship Eligibility
To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:
✔️ Be 16 or over
✔️ Not be in full-time education
✔️ Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
✔️ Have the right to work in the UK
Apprenticeships are designed to provide new knowledge, skills and behaviours, so applicants should not already hold a Level 3, degree or higher qualification in a closely related subject, or have significant experience in the same field.
If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, we’d still love to hear from you - get in touch and we can advise you further.
Start your career as a laboratory scientist and gain hands-on experience in a real laboratory environment while working towards a recognised degree.

If you choose to continue your development, this programme provides a strong foundation for further academic study or progression into senior scientific and research roles.

We're Tiro (pronounced ‘Tea-ro’ as in white, two sugars).
In Latin, it means novice, recruit, apprentice, beginner and soldier. The perfect name for a company that’s been helping fearless apprentices to join ambitious businesses since 2005.
We believe that great apprenticeships help everyone. There are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employment opportunities waiting to be filled.
Our work will never be just about getting bums on seats and pocketing our commission. In our own small way, we’re helping to change the world – finding people that are working on COVID vaccines, finding new ways for technology to help humanity and helping to tackle the big issues of the day, like climate change. As well as helping people – young and old – to find their way.
Tiro’s proud to be playing our part in making that happen, and we can’t wait to find out what happens next…
