Laboratory Operations Manager

About the role: 

Superluminal Medicines, Inc. is seeking a highly organized and proactive Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our laboratory. This role is essential to ensuring our scientists can focus on research while the laboratory runs safely, efficiently and in compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. Superluminal’s platform aims to develop candidate-ready compounds with unprecedented speed using a combination of deep biology, computational and medicinal chemistry, machine learning, and proprietary big data infrastructure. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, thrives in a startup environment, and brings strong experience in laboratory operations, safety, and vendor management.


Key responsibilities: 

  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety requirements including OSHA, biosafety, chemical hygiene and other regulatory standards and serve as laboratory safety officer
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and manage space planning and organization
  • Manage equipment installation, maintenance, calibration and related service contracts
  • Responsible for ordering, tracking and stocking common lab reagents, supplies and consumables
  • Manage all shipping and delivery needs and ensure daily delivery of packages to intended recipients
  • Responsible for managing vendor, service provider and facilities relationships, negotiating contracts and coordinating operational service requests
  • Identify inefficiencies in our operational processes and implement solutions to address them
  • Assist leadership with laboratory expansion planning and scaling strategy and ensure efficient execution

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of laboratory operations experience and 2+ years in an operations, facilities, or laboratory management role required
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and certification in biosafety or laboratory safety (e.g. CBSP) highly desirable
  • Experience managing laboratory equipment, service contracts and vendors
  • Experience managing lab buildouts or expansions highly desirable
  • Highly organized self-starter with a strong ability for problem solving and effective execution
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple tasks
  • Ability to work onsite full-time
