About the College
Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine (HBMCDM) is part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), the academic arm of Dubai Health, UAE. MBRU aims to impact lives and shape the future of health through the integration of care, learning, and discovery.
HBMCDM offers three-year Master of Science /Residency programs, open to all nationalities, with English as the language of instruction. The college is affiliated with the Dental Hospital and other Dubai Health dental facilities, where students receive their clinical training.
HBMCDM works in close partnership with Dubai Health dental facilities, forming an integrated Oral Health Ecosystem that connects clinical care, education, research, and community engagement.
The Laboratory Manager will lead the establishment, operationalization, and ongoing management of the Stem Cells and Regeneration Center (SCRC). This role is responsible for setting up the laboratory from the ground up, ensuring that infrastructure, processes, and standards are implemented to the highest level of quality, and subsequently overseeing the day-to-day operation of the laboratory and its personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Set-Up & Infrastructure Development
- Lead the initial setup of the laboratory, including space readiness, workflow planning, and operational organization.
- Identify, source, and coordinate the procurement of laboratory equipment, consumables, reagents, and kits required for stem cell research.
- Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and institutional support units to ensure timely installation, validation, and maintenance of equipment.
Quality Systems, SOPs & Standards
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory activities.
- Establish laboratory standards for quality, documentation, traceability, and reproducibility.
- Ensure alignment with institutional biosafety, ethics, and regulatory requirements.
Operational & Personnel Management
- Oversee the daily running of the laboratory, including scheduling, task allocation, and workflow coordination.
- Supervise laboratory scientists, technicians, and research assistants.
- Support training, onboarding, and competency development of laboratory staff.
Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate records related to laboratory operations, inventory, and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and sustainability of laboratory processes.
- Support internal reporting and coordination with center leadership.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- PhD in stem cell biology, biomedical sciences, life sciences, or a related field
- Extensive hands-on experience with human iPSC culture and laboratory workflows
- Demonstrated experience in laboratory setup, operations, or senior technical roles
- Strong organizational, leadership, and process-development skills
Desirable Experience
- Experience in establishing or scaling research laboratories or core facilities
- Experience in tissue engineering, advanced in-vitro systems, or regenerative medicine
- Familiarity with quality management systems and laboratory governance
