Three positions are available in the New York University Department of Anthropology for a longitudinal study of the rhesus macaques of Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico, as part of a new U19 award from the National Institute on Aging. All positions are initially for one year, potentially renewable for up to five years.
A Laboratory Associate is being sought for the lab of Prof. James Higham, to operate the day-to-day operations of our new state-of-the-art wet-lab facilities. They will be responsible for undertaking fecal extractions and running enzyme-immuno assays for the measurement of physiological and immunological analytes. They will also support tissue and sample collections during the annual trapping period on Cayo Santiago, and during animal processing at the Sabana Seca Field Station. The project is part of a large, multi-institutional consortium, and will require working and coordinating with a large (>100 individuals) group of researchers, including shipping and receiving samples. The position is available immediately, but later start dates are potentially negotiable. The position is for one year, renewable for up to five years.
This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,000-62,000 per year. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
A bachelor’s degree in zoology, animal biology, biological anthropology, or a related field. Evidence of experience of labwork and research, as well as coordination and management of projects is preferred. The Lab Technician may be required to make visits to Puerto Rico for components of data collection.
