Laboratory Assistant III, STEM (FT) CF1N11612NASC
The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare materials, supplies and equipment for all Biology, Zoology, Microbiology, Botany, Anatomy and Physiology laboratories.

  • Propose Biology budget capital, supplies, and maintenance for approval.
  • Purchase materials as approved for classes.
  • Maintain security and complete inventory on all material and equipment.
  • Repair or have serviced non-functioning equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of 10 labs and 3 prep rooms.
  • Prepare media and maintain cultures of bacteria for Microbiology classes.
  • Clean and sterilize used materials.
  • Properly dispose of biohazard waste.
  • Prepare materials and equipment required for daily laboratory experiments.
  • Maintain the cadaver lab and cadavers.
  • Maintain live plants, fish and protists.
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical and working conditions as required by federal government.
  • Prepare lab room usage charts.
  • Assist students during open microbiology lab time.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

    • Education
      • Bachelors Degree with biology/chemistry background required.
      • Masters Degree with biology/chemistry background preferred.
    • Experience
      • One year experience in laboratory, and techniques in educational, industrial labs, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or training required.
      • Proficient in written and spoken English required.

    Working Conditions:

  • Microscopes, autoclave, computers, incubators, magnetic stirrers, and water distillers.
  • On campus 40 hours per week.
  • Lifting 46-50 lbs. regularly.
  • Climb stairs and deliver materials to all laboratories.
  • Mix chemicals.
  • This position requires a background check and drug screen.
  • Hiring Range:
    Starting pay begins at $23.87/hr. based on experience.

    Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
