Salary Range: Band 2 $ 75,646 - $ 80,674 + Superannuation

Our Business

Infrastructure Services (ISG) brings together Council's asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance and transport operations activities.​

Our Branch

Asphalt and Aggregates oversees the management of Council's asphalt production, quarries and road surfacing operations, including the laying and repair of asphalt pavements, minor pothole repairs and road line marking. The branch consists of three core business units: Road Resurfacing, Asphalt Production and Quarries.

The Role

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will support the delivery of quality sampling, testing and laboratory services for asphalt and aggregate materials.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with NATA certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • collecting samples and undertaking testing of asphalt and aggregate materials in field and laboratory environments
  • performing basic analytical testing in accordance with established procedures and quality standards
  • maintaining accurate testing records, data and reports
  • assisting with laboratory and equipment maintenance activities
  • monitoring production processes and reporting quality or material issues
  • contributing to safe work practices and compliance with workplace health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
  • supporting the efficient operation of laboratory services through effective teamwork and continuous improvement initiatives

To be successful you will have:

  • the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a culture of performance excellence
  • experience in sampling, testing or analysing materials in accordance with established procedures and quality standards
  • knowledge of workplace health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
  • the ability to prepare accurate records and reports and manage workloads effectively
  • strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships
  • sound computer skills, including experience using spreadsheets and data management systems
  • an understanding of quality assurance processes and laboratory standards
