Summary
As a Retail Yard Trimmer at Moon Valley Nurseries, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and health of our nursery inventory. Your primary responsibility will involve trimming and shaping trees, shrubs, and plants to ensure they meet quality standards and customer expectations. This position requires attention to detail, knowledge of pruning techniques, and a passion for horticulture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform regular trimming and shaping of trees, shrubs, and plants to maintain their health, appearance, and desired form. Utilize hand tools such as pruning shears, loppers, and hedge trimmers to remove dead or overgrown branches, shape foliage, and promote healthy growth.
- Inspect trees and plants for signs of damage, disease, or pests during trimming activities. Identify and remove any diseased or infested branches to prevent the spread of pathogens and ensure the overall health of the plant material.
- Collaborate with other nursery staff members to coordinate trimming schedules, prioritize tasks, and ensure efficient workflow in the retail yard. Communicate any issues or concerns related to tree and plant health to the appropriate personnel for further action.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing trimming activities. Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to prevent injuries and accidents.
- Demonstrated availability to work any day of the week.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Previous experience with operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of pruning techniques and plant anatomy.
- Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
Education
HS Diploma or equivalent
Physical requirements/Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally exchange information with colleagues, managers and vendors. The position is active and may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently reach for, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 lbs. The employee must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in possibly extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
